Upgrading to Dynamics CRM 2011 - which strategy...

If you have a Dynamics CRM 4 based system - you will be delighted with CRM 2011. Dashboards for easy presentation of data, dialogues to provide a path for data collection and extra options to present relevant information without moving around the system are just some of the new features available on CRM 2011.

A. Do you move your existing system across and ignore many of the new options for now?

B. Do you sit down and re-invent your system to take advantage of some new features to improve usability and analysis of information, which will take time and money?

C. Do you move your existing system across and take advantage of some easy wins - like the dashboard facility to easily present information in different ways, but ignore the increased benefits the new architectural framework until you have some experience with the new user features?

We at Axem have moved our Vital-DB product from CRM 4 to CRM 2011 and learnt a great deal in the process since, understandably, new architecture can take some time to understand the impact and implications.

We recommend option C. Moving the system across to the new framework may or may not be painless, depending on whether you have conformed to pure Microsoft CRM supported customisation. Conforming to Microsoft supported customisation was not always possible in CRM 4 if you needed some features like filtered lookups - where the contents of a lookup was filtered depending on values in another field (quite important functionality which required some"work arounds" in CRM 4, but are now standard in CRM 2011).

Moving to option C gives you the immediate benefit of many many new features - not the least being Dashboards and Dialogues. Users are impressed with immediate productivity benefits, without being overwhelmed by too much change in one instance.

We have a formal process to ensure the highest standards are met and the conversion does not interfere with your day to day business. Using first hand experience, we can save you time, money and disruption by:

1. Moving your existing system to CRM 2011 at very special low rates for work done in our offices

2. Assisting with review of your business needs and processes in light of CRM 2011 architectural changes and functional enhancements, and make recommendations

3. Develop an assimilation plan allowing advantage of the new framework to be gradually implemented in stages
